2017’s Must-have Décor Trends

The property market is still alive and kicking after the Brexit vote and so hopeful vendors can dare to think about interior trends for The Year After 2016! Here’s four of the hottest looks that might just bag you a buyer.

Hygge

If you don’t know how to pronounce this Danish word for a kind of cosy feeling of togetherness, then where have you been? It’s easier to achieve than to translate into English; just place a few candles about, as well as some sheepskin rugs and other throws. You also need to bring warm, bare wood into the mix and a few bowls of fruit and other treats won’t go amiss, either.

Marble

It’s back – that staple of stately homes and local-lad-made-good arriviste pads. It’s back with a twist, though, as it now works alongside metal and wood, rather than being the star of the show. Keep it subtle – a kitchen sink top, a feature wall in a bathroom…

Satin-finish brass

This is the metal for all seasons, really. The good thing about satin brass is that it doesn’t look too brassy. That is, it gives out a warm, soft colour that works well with all other colours, textures and styles. If you’re all about the pastels, get some satin brass fixtures. If you love your bolder metallics, get some satin brass fixtures. If you live for primary colours…you get the picture.

Lots of greenery

2017 really is the year that we bring the outdoors in. Once the preserve of those Nordic types, greenery has blown in on the wind along with hygge to make our homes much nicer, freer places to live in. You could paint an accent wall green, or you could create a living wall, it’s up to you. If you don’t have much of a green thumb, then you could at least give a few low-maintenance cacti a go. Maybe nix the idea of an astroturfed bathroom, though, eh?
