The summer holidays are finally here and while many of us breathe a huge sigh of relief at the break from school runs and homework, just as many of us are wondering how to fill in the next six weeks.

17-19 July: Rovin’ Fest

This family-friendly festival is abuzz with live music of all genres, as well as a special kids’ tent which features circus workshops and a second-hand toy market. 20-25 July: Avenue Q at the Everyman Theatre

Bag yourselves a babysitter and have a grown-up night at the theatre! Avenue Q is the musical story of Princeton, a recent graduate who takes a shabby New York apartment and meets lots of colourful characters who guide him towards his real purpose in life. 21 July: The Grand Budapest Hotel

There’s nothing like an open-air cinema on a summer evening and this award-winning dark comedy is showing at the Tuckwell Amphitheatre. The gates open at 7.45pm for picnickers and it’s £6.50 (£5.50) for tickets. Call 01242258002 for more details or to book.

July 26: My Pet Monster and Me

Theatre fans aged three to seven will love this outdoor play about Sophie Bucket and her quest for a chum. After finding an egg on her dad’s farm, Sophie cares for it and out hatches the lovely monster George. This play starts at 5.00pm at the Tuckwell Amphitheatre at Dean Close School and tickets cost £10 (£8.00) or £32.00 for a family. Call 01242258002.

28 July: Become a Victorian for a day at the Holst Museum

Visit the Holst Birthplace Museum at 4, Clarence Road in Cheltenham between 10.30am and 3.00pm and make your own Eton collar and mob cap. Tickets cost £5 (£4.50) for adults and up to three children can go free. Call 01242524846 for more details.

July 25-31: The Romans are Coming!

Take a trip back in time at Chedworth Roman Villa, at Yarnworth near Cheltenham. The Legio Augusta II will be out in force, offering visitors a taste of Ancient Rome with stalls, talks and demonstrations.
