I’ve been in property management for almost a decade now, but before starting at Elliot Oliver I was working in Birmingham and this involved a big commute every day as I live in Cheltenham. Now I live and work in Cheltenham, I have a much better work-life balance and I can enjoy my job much more.
Property management was only meant to be a summer job for me while I was at uni but I soon realised it was my ideal fit and so it’s become my career! To be a successful property manager you need to be ready to lend a hand wherever you’re needed. You also need to be able to talk to tenants and landlords and treat them equally as they’re both as important as each other.
My ideal tenant is someone who will look after the property and treat it as their own while they live there. When it comes to my ideal property to let out to a tenant, it would be one with a lot of character – it doesn’t matter how old it is, as long as it has some unusual or interesting features.
When I’m not working I like to go into the centre of Cheltenham for the shops and cafes. It’s a great place to live as you’ve got everything on your doorstep. I also go for lots of walks with my dog, who’s a Maltese-poodle cross and we often head up into the hills or around Cleeve Hill golf course.
Life isn’t all about Cheltenham, though. I’m a really keen skier as my dad’s a skiing instructor and we go to Northern Italy a lot – it’s our favourite skiing destination. I don’t mind the sun either, as I’ve been to Egypt in recent years and I try to have a city break as often as possible.
