A big priority for many people when they move into a new area is to find a decent local pub so they can relax after a hard week at work, watch live sports or enjoy a Sunday roast with the family.

With more than 110 pubs and bars in Cheltenham, you might feel spoiled for choice or overwhelmed by the sheer number of watering holes on offer. We’ve made life a bit easier for you by picking our five favourite Cheltenham pubs so that you can find what you’re looking for.

Best pub for children and families

The Whittle Taps at 1, Regent Street in Cheltenham (so you don’t get much more central) is well known for its friendly attitude towards children and, well, everyone. It also does some great food, serves craft beers and has the odd spot of live sports.

Best pub for cocktails

The Urban Fox, at 4, Montpellier Walk, is also very central and offers customers a range of interesting and unique cocktails. The bar also has some good early evening drinks deals and, even better, delicious cupcakes to go with your Champagne and cocktails.

Best pub for foodies

The King’s Arms might be a couple of miles from central Cheltenham, but it’s worth making the journey to Prestbury’s High Street to this Raymond Blanc-owned gastropub with its amazing seasonal menus and famously friendly staff.

The best all-rounder pub

Tailor’s Eating House at 4, Cambray Place, has everything you need from a town-centre pub. It’s got great food, a wide range of world wines and imported beers, live sports, a heated alfresco dining area and attentive staff, as well as lots of ivy on the walls. It’s also very dog friendly – what’s not to love?

The best pub for live music

The Frog & Fiddle, at 313-315 High Street in Cheltenham, is a great place to go for live music, especially local up-and-coming bands, cute cocktails, live sport and real ales and ciders.
