Four Fun Things to Do in Cheltenham

If you’re planning a move to Cheltenham then you should make every effort to get to know the town better, especially if you have younger children. Just a day or two devoted to fun and exploration might be enough to help you all relax and feel optimistic about your new home.

Here’s just four of the many fun things you can do in Cheltenham.

Row a boat in Pittville Park

Pittville Park is 33 hectares in size and features walks, lakes, a golf course, aviaries and a cafe, as well as the Pump Room, a stunning Grade I Regency building. Lots of visitors to the park like to head to the boating lake to practise their rowing skills before warming up (or cooling down) with a drink at The Boat House Cafe. If you’re lucky, you might spot a kingfisher.

Take in the Wilson Art Gallery and Museum

Named after Edward Wilson, who died on the ill-fated 1912 Scott expedition to the Antarctic, this gallery and museum is at Clarence Street in Cheltenham and features internationally-renowned collections. The gallery is open from 10.00am to 6.00pm Tuesday to Saturday and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sundays.

Explore the Montpellier district

Montpellier Walk is known for its amazing architecture and on sunny days you could just about convince yourself you’re in Greece with the many Caryatids lining the streets. Montpellier is full of independent and specialist shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and when you’re feeling shopped out, you can relax in Montpellier Gardens.

Paint your own pottery

The Paint it Yourself Pottery Co at 76, Winchcombe Street in Cheltenham is popular with visitors of all ages, including young families and couples. You can let loose your creative streak on cups, plates and bowls or go along to one of the evening events such as Paint & Prosecco. You can just turn up, but it does get busy so you might prefer to call 01242575700 to book a table.
