Cheltenham is a great place to live

No matter where you’re coming from, you’ll grow to love Cheltenham. It really does give residents the best of both worlds because you have an elegant, historic town and easy access to several big cities.

Cheltenham is on the edges of the Cotswolds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), so you’ve got all the splendid countryside just on your doorstep as well as some great transport links. London Paddington is just two hours away, Birmingham a mere 45 minutes on the train and Bristol 40 minutes. If you need to travel to Oxford, there’s a reliable bus service and you can also hit the motorway to get to Wales and the rest of the south west.

A good-looking town

Cheltenham is, according to its claims, the most complete Regency town in the UK and it is well-known for its crescents of Georgian townhouses. You might be looking to rent somewhere smaller, so you’ll be pleased to know that a two-bedroomed flat is around £750 and a three-bedroomed house around £1,200 per month. Cheltenham is significantly cheaper than its fellow spa town Bath, where you’ll pay around £1,000 a month for a two-bedroomed flat. As long as you know what your budget is, all you need then is a savvy Cheltenham letting agent to help you out.

Cheltenham has lots of job opportunities

Cheltenham has a lot of heavyweight employers for a town of just 120,000 people. There’s GCHQ, the government’s communications headquarters, which is known to the townspeople as “the Doughnut”. Alternatively, there’s clothes giant Superdry, or engineering company Spirax Sarco. Lots of people come to Cheltenham to study or work at the University of Gloucester, of course, which makes renting for a year or two an ideal solution. You might even decide to stay on and buy somewhere in Cheltenham after a few years.

Cheltenham is ideal for children

With lots of parks and outdoor spaces for children in the town, as well as the countryside just outside Cheltenham, your children will love living here.

The schools are also excellent, with 32 of the 35 primary and secondary schools in Cheltenham having good or outstanding ratings from Ofsted. One big factor for parents when it comes to finding a place to live is the ratings of the nearest schools and so if this is important to you, make sure we know about it here as we can help.

Life isn’t all about work and school

While Cheltenham certainly has a lot of work and educational opportunities going, it’s also somewhere where you can have a lot of fun. Possibly the most famous event in the town is the Cheltenham Festival, the four-day racing event that happens every March. The festival ends with the Cheltenham Gold Cup steeplechase and attracts tens of thousands of visitors from the UK and all over the world.

There’s a lot to do for science and music fans, too. If you like jazz, then the Cheltenham Jazz Festival in May might be more up your street. Failing that, the six-day Science Festival in June might appeal to you, or maybe one of the many other literary and musical events hosted by the town throughout the year.
