Cheltenham Borough Council (CBC) believes that 12,000 new jobs will come to the town due to the Golden Valley Development. This development is a cyber business park currently in the construction phase which will, as well as new jobs, bring up to 3,700 new homes to the area.
The cyber park, which will be located next to GCHQ, will hopefully be built and open by 2025 and plans to attract people into the cyber industry, including sectors such as security, virtual reality and IT. It’s around this time that Cheltenham and its surrounding areas will see the boost in employment as people take up these roles.
CBC has released a video aimed at young people looking for careers in cyber
The council recently released a film aimed at young people who will be finishing their GCSEs and A levels in the next few years. Council officials want them to see a career in cyber as an attractive option, as well as to see Cheltenham as an inviting place to start and further their careers.
Although aimed at students, the video showcases how inclusive a career in cyber may be, encouraging people from all backgrounds and age groups to think about coming to Golden Valley.
Golden Valley will create opportunities for local people
CBC’s cabinet minister for cyber, regeneration and commercial income, Cllr Mike Collins, says the Golden Valley development will create opportunities for people across Gloucestershire, making the cyber sector ever more accessible.
The councillor added that the development would give businesses, graduates, school leavers and people looking to retrain in a new industry reasons, opportunities – and homes – to stay in Gloucestershire.

CBC councillor Victoria Atherstone, cabinet minister for housing, believes that the Golden Valley Development will create an “ecosystem” of jobs in the area. Any development of this size needs a lot of support services, which will mean lots of new opportunities for people with experience in many fields and sectors.
