Tips for Improving Your Patio

Your patio gets a lot of use. It’s a sun-trap in the summer and somewhere to hose down muddy dogs in autumn and winter. Your patio sees a lot of action but doesn’t often get much love, slowly becoming darker and tired-looking without you really noticing.

If you’re about to go to market, however, then sprucing up this outdoor space is a must, so here’s some tips on improving your patio to help you to sell your house.

Jet-wash your way to a sale

If you only do one thing to improve your patio, it should be to jet-wash it. Nothing makes as big a difference to your paving, flagstones or concrete as a high-pressured blasting! You’ll see the natural colours of the stones, or the brightness of the paving slabs and your garden will look brighter and feel bigger.

Seal your newly-cleaned slabs

The second-best thing you can do for your patio is to seal it as soon as possible after it’s been washed. A transparent, tough sealant can help to keep it bright and clean, as well as to add a bit of shine and enhance the natural colours. The sealant can also prevent mould and grime from taking hold, meaning less work for you or your buyers.

Remove weeds from the cracks

Weeds and grass sprouting up between the cracks in your patio might be a sign of life finding a way, but it doesn’t look great! Spend a couple of hours picking out all the green stuff so that your patio looks spick and span.

Re-sand your patio to hold back weeds

Once you’ve picked out all of the weeds and grass from between your stones or slabs, brush sand in between the cracks to prevent any plants from growing back. Re-sanding your flagstones or slabs can also help to maintain stability, so brush a few extra grains under any slabs that are starting to wobble.
