Are we really alone in the universe? Does what you eat affect the way you think and the way your brain works? How does science impact our everyday lives?

These are big questions for a humble estate agent and while we do like to ponder the meaning of life in between viewings, we’re happy to defer to the experts in these weighty matters, which is where the UK’s top scientists come in.

This year’s Science Festival is set to be the best yet

The 2024 Cheltenham Science Festival will run from Tuesday June 4 to Sunday June 9 and promises six days of serious science fun for all of the family.

With more than 200 speakers at 100-plus ticketed events, the fair will have something to interest everyone, from craft workshops for younger children to talks on mindfulness and climate change.

The Infinite Monkey Cage will make an appearance

You can see the popular Radio 4 science series in the flesh as Professor Brian Cox, Robin Ince, Steve Backshall and Adam Kay (This is Going to Hurt) bring a family-friendly live-action episode to the proceedings.

Festival goers will also get the chance to meet astronaut Tim Peake and to listen to astronomer Maggie Aderin-Pocock talk about space.

Plenty of free events

As well as ticketed events, the 2024 Cheltenham Science Festival is offering three interactive zones which are free to enter. There’s The Arcade, the MakerShack and the Discover Zone, which all give science fans of all ages the chance to get hands on, solve puzzles and find out about cutting-edge research.

The fun doesn’t stop after the sun goes down, either, as there’ll be off-site walks and late night events involving lots of sciencey japes.

If you want to go along to the Science Festival then tickets go on sale on April 24 and you can call 01242850270 (option 1) to speak to the box office. The lines are open between 10.00am and 4.00pm from Tuesday to Friday.
